Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the youngest person ever awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. As the recognized leader of the American civil rights movement, Dr. King was named Time’s Man of the Year in 1963.
In perhaps his most memorable speech, he stood before the Lincoln Memorial on August 28th, 1963 and spoke of his DREAM: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Dr. King’s Dream has inspired generations to strive towards this simple and powerful purpose: to achieve equality, freedom, and justice for all Americans regardless of race. And, although he achieved many successes, in 2016, this dream remains unrealized.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. also said, “human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and the persistent work of dedicated individuals.”
Put simply, our work is not done.
Today we celebrate Dr. King’s life, we remember Dr. King’s message, and we draw from Dr. King’s strength so that we may continue to have the Courage of Our Own Convictions.
